August 8, 2009 at Pine
Ridge Equine Park - Open 4D - Results

The Turn N Burn for the Cure on August 8th,
2009 was an amazing success
beyond our expectations and raised $8500 for Cancer Care Manitoba
through pledges by competitors, a silent auction, and donations.
I would like to thank Craig Wallace of the Free Ride band for playing
such a large role in helping me put this together and gather sponsorship
money and prizes. I was also able to take advantage of his musical
talent as he opened the event by singing Oh Canada and he then got
everybody pumped up with his rendition of Nickelback's if Today was your
Last Day. A song I thought that was more than appropriate for this
event...
Thank you also to Kerri and Meghan Liddiard who helped me gather money
and prizes for the Turn N Burn and helped with registrations.
Jayne Martin did an excellent job announcing the event and keeping the
spectators focused in on the action.
A very special thank you to Darcy Douglas for keeping track of the money
raised and keeping pledge forms in order, during registration and
throughout the night.
Thank you to Kurt Klimpke for working the timers and keeping time and
his helper Deidre Kolosky for entering it into the computer.
Thanks to Cheryl Dunn and Tom Judge for working the silent auction
table.
Thanks to our photographer - Dutch Ivanic and videographer - Martin
Joyce.
The gateman did a great job - thanks Rob Ramsey, and so did Marvin Wiebe
who made sure all the barrel racers knew when it was their turn to come
in.
Linda Hazelwood got everybody laughing since she chose to dress as a
horse and run the pattern rather then ride one. LOL
A personal thank you to Alyssa to getting my horses ready since I hardly
had time to breathe never mind tack up. :-)
And of course we could not have had this wonderful event without Gerry
Loewen's donation of the Pine Ridge Equine Park facility and his help
with everything from the sound system, to computer glitches to giving us
even better ideas for next year's event!!
It was so great to see horse people from so many different disciplines
getting together and barrel racing to raise money for a good cause. I
heard rumour that the hunter/jumper crowd will be challenging the
dressage crowd at next year's event!
Thanks to everybody who helped out in some way or another, and a huge
thank-you to the spectators who were out in abundance.
I am looking forward to seeing you all again next year!!!
If I have missed thanking someone - please let me know and accept my
apologies and I will add them to the list.

SHEET
The Turn and Burn for the Cure is a 4D Barrel
Race to raise money for all types of cancer.
Every one of us has been affected or is close to someone whose lives have been
changed
by cancer. This is our way, with the help of our horses and the donations from caring
individuals and companies to try and do something positive. This barrel race is dedicated
to raising funds towards finding a cure for breast cancer. 100% of all the entry fees (in
the
form of pledges) are donated to Cancer Care Manitoba. A minimum of $50 donation is
requested per horse entered.
